Massachusetts Institute of Technologyمعرفی
Robert C. Armstrong is Chevron Professor in Chemical Engineering (Post-Tenure) at MIT, specializing in complex fluid dynamics and process engineering. His research bridges fundamental polymer science and industrial applications through advanced computational modeling.
Education includes:
- Ph.D., University of Wisconsin (1973)
- B.ChE., Georgia Institute of Technology (1970)
Research expertise encompasses:
- Theoretical modeling of polymer dynamics
- Non-Newtonian fluid mechanics
- Multiscale simulation of industrial processes
- Transport phenomena in complex materials
- Mathematical methods in chemical engineering
Professor Armstrong has received major honors including the AIChE Founders Award (2020), election to the National Academy of Engineering (2008), and the Bingham Medal from the Society of Rheology (2006). His pioneering work on polymer fluid dynamics established foundational models described in the seminal reference 'Dynamics of Polymeric Liquids'.
He has served as President of the Society of Rheology (1993-95) and received teaching awards including MIT's Outstanding Faculty Award (1975, 1976). Current research develops computational frameworks for sustainable chemical process optimization.
