Robert C. Andrews

Dr. Robert C. Andrews is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland’s A. James Clark School of Engineering. He holds a unique dual career as both a licensed Professional Engineer and a fire service leader, with over 45 years of experience. His roles include adjunct instructor at the National Fire Academy, where he teaches research and leadership courses in the Executive Fire Officer Program. He is also a Visiting Fellow at Durham University’s Institute of Research, Development, and Invention (DIRDI).

Dr. Andrews earned a B.S. in Fire Protection Engineering (1980), M.S. in Executive Fire Service Leadership (2002), and DBA (2022). He completed the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer program (2002) and the University of Cambridge’s Advanced Leadership Program (2024). His expertise spans industrial firefighting, railroad fire safety, and bridging academic research with practitioner needs.

He is a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers and a lifetime member of the National Fire Protection Association. Notable recognitions include the 1990 Outstanding Research Award and induction into the National Fire Heritage Center’s Hall of Legends (2021). Dr. Andrews actively mentors students and professionals in leadership, entrepreneurship, and career planning, while supporting scholarships and endowed professorships in fire protection engineering.
