His research explores mind perception and its ethical implications, particularly in human-robot interaction and AI. He investigates how weekly cycles affect risk tolerance and decision-making, with grants from the FTX Foundation, Leverhulme Trust, and British Academy. Recent studies include the Medusa effect for mind perception and face detection in contextual scenes.
His work reveals general principles of decision-making under human-caused extinction risks (nuclear war, engineered pathogens, unaligned AI). Key publications include Face-evoked thoughts and How many faces do people know? He collaborates with researchers like Andrew Burton and Julia Prunty.
