Rob Hess is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Oregon State University. He holds a B.S. in Computer and Information Science from the University of Delaware (2003) and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Oregon State University (2012). Before joining OSU, he worked at IQ Engines (a computer vision startup acquired by Yahoo) and Yahoo, where he contributed to machine learning and web development projects. His teaching focuses on modern web and mobile application development. He received the 2021 College of Engineering Loyd Carter Award.
Rob currently teaches CS 261 (Data Structures) and CS 290 (Web Development). His office hours are Wednesdays 11:05 AM–12:30 PM (KEC 1109) and Thursdays 2:30–4:00 PM (Zoom). He emphasizes fostering an inclusive classroom environment and aligns with OSU's diversity initiatives. His professional interests span computer vision, machine learning, and software engineering.
