Riyaz Bashir, MD, FACC serves as Professor of Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and Director of Vascular and Endovascular Medicine at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. He is a board-certified specialist in Interventional Cardiology with American Board of Internal Medicine certification and holds Fellowship status with the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Bashir's educational background includes an MBBS from University of Kashmir, Government Medical College, Srinagar, India, followed by extensive training including Fellowships in Interventional Cardiology at Mayo Clinic, and in Vascular Medicine and Cardiovascular Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. His residency training was completed at multiple institutions including University of Kashmir, S.M.H.S. Hospital, and Nassau University Medical Center.
His research and clinical interests focus on peripheral arterial disease and advanced vascular interventions. Notably, Dr. Bashir invented the BASHIR™ Endovascular Catheter (THROMBOLEX, Inc.), with recent RESCUE-II study results highlighted in Venous News in July 2025. His expertise is frequently sought for commentary on high-profile medical cases, as evidenced by his February 2025 insights to PhillyVoice regarding San Antonio Spurs player Victor Wembanyama's deep vein thrombosis diagnosis.
Dr. Bashir has received numerous honors including multiple 'Top Doctors' designations from Philadelphia magazine for both Cardiovascular Disease (2018, 2023-2025) and Interventional Cardiology (2019-2021), a Best Teacher Award from the University of Toledo Department of Medicine, and various research awards from the American College of Physicians.
