Rivka Swenson is an Associate Professor at the Department of English, Virginia Commonwealth University, specializing in Eighteenth-Century British Literature and Culture. She holds a PhD and MA in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia, and an MFA in Poetry from VCU.

Her research explores intersections of Robinsonades, The Gothic, Popular Culture, and Material Culture, with a feminist lens. Recent publications analyze adaptations of Robinson Crusoe, object narratives, and Anglo-Scottish literary identity.
Dr. Swenson has received multiple fellowships including the Chawton House Library and Folger Shakespeare Library. Her courses include The Gothic, Popular Culture Studies: Robinson Crusoe, and Reading Literature: Metafiction.
