Ritva Palmén is an Academy Research Fellow (2021–2026) affiliated with the Faculty of Theology at the University of Helsinki. She serves as a supervisor for the Doctoral Programme in Theology and Religious Studies and holds the title of Docent (2019) in philosophy of religion at the University of Helsinki.
Her research spans history of philosophy, medieval philosophical theology, and emotion studies, with a focus on historical and contemporary analyses of emotions within religious and philosophical contexts. She has published extensively in journals such as Speculum, History of Political Thought, and Medieval Encounters, including a monograph on Richard of St. Victor’s theory of imagination (Brill, 2014).
Recent research trends include interdisciplinary studies of medieval emotions, safety in religious spaces, and ethical frameworks in medieval politics. Her work integrates history of philosophy, theological analysis, and cognitive theories, as evidenced by her 2025 contributions on Godfrey of St. Victor and safety methodologies.
