Ritu Nayar, MD, is Professor of Pathology (Cytopathology) and Medical Education at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. She serves as Vice Chair of Education and Faculty Development and Director of Cytopathology. Dr. Nayar oversees the pathology residency program, 13 subspecialty fellowships, and medical student education, while chairing the department's Promotions Committee.
Her research focuses on translational cytopathology with emphasis on thyroid and gynecologic pathology. She co-edited the globally adopted Bethesda System for Reporting Cervical Cytology, which became the prototype for standardized terminology in cytopathology. She actively develops national clinical guidelines for cervical cancer prevention through collaborations with NIH, CDC, and ACS.

Dr. Nayar holds leadership roles as Trustee of the American Board of Pathology, member of the ACGME Pathology Review Committee, and former President of the American Society of Cytopathology. She serves on editorial boards for 6 pathology journals.
