Risa L. Lieberwitz is a Professor of Labor and Employment Law at Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR), where she has taught since 1982. She serves as Academic Director of the Worker Institute and co-director of Cornell's Law and Society minor.

Research Interests focus on academic freedom, labor law, employment discrimination, and the impact of corporatization on universities. Her work analyzes how privatization and corporate models affect faculty governance and democratic principles in higher education.
Professional Activities include serving as General Counsel for the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) from 2014–2024 and membership on AAUP's Committee A on Academic Freedom and Tenure. She actively engages in faculty governance at Cornell and international comparative studies on academic freedom.
Publications span the Cambridge Handbook of Labor and Democracy, studies on employment equity, and analyses of university-industry relations. Her work addresses digital labor, gender in unions, and constitutional aspects of workplace rights.
