Rick Hinson

Rick Hinson is a Professor of Sound Design at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) since 2022. He has extensive teaching experience, including roles as an Instructor at Middle Tennessee State University (2018–22), Sound Editing/Mixing Teacher at Inner City Filmmakers (2012–18), and Guest Lecturer at institutions like Dartmouth College and University of Laverne. His education includes a B.A. in Cinema-Television from the University of Southern California.

His research focuses on sound design for animation, post-production techniques, and audio engineering in entertainment. He has contributed to numerous Emmy-nominated projects, including work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Sopranos, and He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe, earning multiple Primetime and Daytime Emmy nominations and wins.

Hinson’s professional career spans sound design roles for Netflix series like BEE AND THE PUPPYCAT and DINOSAUR TRAIN, as well as films like CAMP WWE and THE RICKY GERVAIS SHOW. He is actively involved in industry organizations, including the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) Board of Directors and the Emmy Awards Steering Committee.

His publications and presentations include a 2021 talk on sound editing for animation at SIGGRAPH and a 2000 NPR/WYNC segment on the Wilhelm Scream legacy. He has also served on the Entertainment Industry Professional Mentorship Alliance (EIPMA) Board since 2020.
