معرفی
Richard Russell is a Clinical Associate Professor in Respiratory Medicine at the Peter Gorer Department of Immunobiology. His research focuses on chronic respiratory diseases such as COPD and asthma, with a particular emphasis on eosinophilic inflammation, immune mechanisms, and clinical trial development for novel therapies like benralizumab. He has contributed to studies on COPD exacerbations, post-COVID-19 lung recovery, and the role of blood eosinophil counts in guiding treatment decisions.
Collaborations include the PHOSP-COVID Study and the STARR2 trial, investigating post-hospitalization outcomes and steroid use in COPD. He co-leads the BREATH-SENSE project, exploring breath analysis for COPD monitoring. His work spans basic science, clinical trials, and translational research, with over 45 peer-reviewed articles and contributions to high-impact journals like The Lancet Respiratory Medicine and Thorax.
Key themes in his research include immune aging’s impact on disease severity, the interplay between sleep disturbance and respiratory function, and optimizing therapies through biomarker-guided approaches. His findings have influenced clinical guidelines for COPD management and post-COVID-19 care.
