Richard Ronald Coleman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Marine Biology & Ecology at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science, University of Miami. His research focuses on marine biodiversity, phylogeography, and conservation biology, with emphasis on coral reef ecosystems, larval dispersal mechanisms, and population genetics of marine species.
Key areas include genomic analysis of reef fish and invertebrates, such as surgeonfish and manta rays, to understand population connectivity and conservation priorities. His work integrates genetic data with oceanographic modeling to explore larval dispersal patterns and self-recruitment dynamics in marine populations. Recent studies address global biases in conservation research and advocate for equitable focus on understudied taxa and ecosystems.
Publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches combining genomics, field observations, and biophysical models to unravel mysteries of marine species distribution, evolution, and management implications.
