Richard Price

Richard Price is a Professor of Political Science at the University of British Columbia, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Department of Political Science. He holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University (1993) and has served as Director of Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Arts, Head of the Political Science Department (2019–2022), and Senior Advisor to UBC President Stephen Toope (2011–2014). A recipient of the UBC Killam Teaching Prize (2009), he is also an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) through the International Coaching Federation, providing leadership coaching to UBC faculty and staff.

His research focuses on international relations, particularly the role of norms in limiting warfare, constructivist theory, and ethics in global politics. Notable works include The Chemical Weapons Taboo (1997) and co-authored Moral Psychology, Neuroscience, and International Norms (2021). He teaches courses on world politics, ethics, and professional development for Political Science students, including the innovative POLI 395 course bridging academic and career skills.

Price has supervised over 30 Ph.D. students and contributed to major international policy debates on chemical weapons, landmines, and norm enforcement. His awards include the Arthur 'Red' Motley Teaching Award (2000) and recognition for expanding coaching programs to enhance student professional growth. Current research explores computational governance implications and nuclear deterrence dynamics.
