Richard Mulholland is a practicing paper conservator and technical art historian at Northumbria University. He holds a PhD from the Royal College of Art and has conducted post-doctoral research at the Bodleian Library, Oxford. Before joining academia, he worked at renowned institutions such as the V&A, Tate, and Harvard Art Museums. His research focuses on artists' materials and techniques from the late 18th to 20th centuries, with a particular emphasis on cultural heritage preservation in conflict zones like Afghanistan. He co-leads the University Art Collection and Montagu Collection of World Musical Instruments, and is a Fellow of the International Institute for Conservation and the Higher Education Academy.

Labs/Teams: Manages Northumbria's University Art Collection and Montagu Collection, collaborating with global institutions on heritage preservation.
