Dr. Richard Muhlack is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Agriculture, Food and Wine within the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology at the University of Adelaide. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering and has over two decades of industry experience in winemaking, including roles at Hardy Wine Company and the Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI). His research focuses on mathematical modeling of food and wine production processes, process efficiency optimization, renewable energy applications in winemaking, and environmental management strategies.
Education: PhD in Chemical Engineering. Transitioned into academia in 2014 after industry R&D roles.
Research Interests: Wine production optimization, industrial process simulation, no/low alcohol beverage development, energy/water efficiency, wastewater treatment, and cleaner production techniques. His work integrates engineering principles with winemaking to enhance sustainability and product quality.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Wine Science Laboratory at the Waite campus. Collaborates on projects involving process automation, instrumentation, and equipment design.
