معرفی
Richard Moore is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Warwick and Director of the EPP (Economics, Psychology and Philosophy) BA/BSc program. His research focuses on the philosophy of mind, language, and psychology, particularly investigating the origins of human cognition and communication. He holds a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship and leads the Communicative Mind research group exploring language evolution and human-animal communication differences.
Moore's educational background includes a PhD from the University of Warwick (2005-2009) under supervisors Michael Luntley, Susan Hurley, and Steve Butterfill. He has held positions at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, with visiting roles at ANU and Fachhochschule Potsdam. He collaborates on interdisciplinary projects, co-organizing the Evolutionary Pragmatics forum with Bart Geurts.
His research interests span evolutionary pragmatics, communicative intentions, and social learning mechanisms. Notable work includes studies on ape gestural communication, cultural evolution's theoretical challenges, and the cognitive foundations of theory of mind. Key publications include Evolutionary Pragmatics (co-edited with Bart Geurts) and articles in Behavioral and Brain Sciences, Biological Reviews, and Philosophical Quarterly.
Moore's work has been featured in The New York Times for its insights into chimpanzee communication and human language origins. He emphasizes the role of cultural transmission in cognitive evolution and challenges socio-cognitive revolution hypotheses by arguing for incremental evolutionary pathways.
