Richard Marais

Richard Marais is a Professor of Molecular Oncology and Director at the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute. He has held leadership roles such as Centre Co-Lead for the CRUK Lung Cancer Centre of Excellence and Scientific Co-Director of the Belfast-Manchester Movember Centre of Excellence. Marais is renowned for his work on BRAF/NRAS oncogenes, melanoma biology, and drug resistance mechanisms.

• Education: BSc in Genetics and Microbiology from University College London (1985); PhD at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (1989).
• Research: Focuses on cell signaling in melanoma, UV radiation effects, tumor heterogeneity, and personalized medicine strategies.
