Richard Luthy is the Silas H. Palmer Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University. He directs the NSF Engineering Research Center for Re-inventing the Nation’s Urban Water Infrastructure (ReNUWIt), focusing on sustainable water solutions for arid regions.
Education: PhD in Civil Engineering (UC Berkeley), MS in Ocean Engineering (University of Hawaii).
Research Interests: Develops strategies for urban water reuse, stormwater management, and sediment remediation. Investigates contaminant behavior in water systems and engineered solutions for water quality improvement.
Professional Service: Past chair of the National Research Council’s Water Science and Technology Board and former President of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors.
