Richard Krahenbuhl is a Research Associate Professor in Geophysics and Director of the Humanitarian Engineering and Science Graduate Program at Colorado School of Mines. He holds a PhD in Geophysics from Colorado School of Mines and a BS in Geophysics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. His affiliations include the Center for Gravity, Electrical and Magnetic Studies, Humanitarian Engineering and Science Center, and the Center for Mining Sustainability.

Research interests span humanitarian geoscience, time-lapse geophysical monitoring, and applications in CO2 sequestration, geothermal exploration, and landslide hazards. His work integrates geophysics with societal challenges, including agricultural sustainability in Peru and UXO detection. Recent publications emphasize machine learning in CO2 monitoring, low-cost geophysical tools, and interdisciplinary approaches to landslide analysis.
Scientific awards include the Best Student Paper at the 74th Annual SEG Meeting (2004). He has collaborated extensively on projects related to reservoir monitoring, archaeological geophysics, and environmental engineering.

Richard Krahenbuhl leads the Geophysical Discovery Lab at Colorado School of Mines, focusing on educational outreach and humanitarian applications of geophysics.
