Dr. Richard Klabunde is a Professor of Physiology at Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine since 2012. With over four decades of academic experience, he has held faculty positions at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, University of Illinois College of Medicine, and West Virginia University College of Medicine. He also served as a Senior Cardiovascular Group Leader at Abbott Laboratories and Director at the Deborah Research Institute.

His research spans three major phases: (1) Skeletal muscle microcirculation regulation (1970-1985), (2) Cardiovascular drug mechanisms in heart failure/sepsis models (1985-2005), and (3) Diabetes/obesity impacts on coronary control systems. He pioneered isolated Langendorff heart models to study nitric oxide pathways and thrombolytic agents.
Notable achievements include creating the educational websites www.cvphysiology.com and www.cvpharmacology.com, authoring two key textbooks, and receiving the American Physiological Society's highest teaching award. His scholarly work now focuses on medical education innovation, having transitioned from laboratory research to content development and consulting.
