Richard Joreitz, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh, specializes in sports physical therapy and clinical education. He developed the University of Pittsburgh Division I Sports Physical Therapy Fellowship program in 2022 with Athletic Department support. Joreitz integrates clinical practice into teaching, serving as Team Physical Therapist for Pitt Football and providing care to student-athletes through the Sports Medicine Team. He is also a Clinical Instructor for Doctor of Physical Therapy students during the football season.
Education: B.S. in Rehabilitation Science (University of Pittsburgh) and DPT (University of Pittsburgh).
Research interests focus on sports-related rehabilitation, including ACL reconstruction outcomes, return-to-sport protocols, and diagnostic accuracy in musculoskeletal assessments. His work bridges clinical practice and academic instruction, emphasizing real-world applications.
Awarded Board-Certified Sports Clinical Specialist status, reflecting expertise in sports medicine. Prior to joining Pitt's faculty in 2019, he spent 11 years at UPMC Rehabilitation Institute as a physical therapist and team therapist for the Pittsburgh Penguins during their 2016 and 2017 Stanley Cup seasons.
