Richard Hylton is an Associate Professor in Art History at the Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University, specializing in critical analyses of Black British and African American art within global contexts. His work bridges historical recovery, cultural memory, restitution, and ethnography.
- PhD, MA, and BA in Visual Cultures from Goldsmiths and Fine Art from Exeter College of Art & Design
His research interrogates decolonization, institutional policies, and the intersection of art with social justice movements like #Black Lives Matter. Projects include Public Library UK Vol.1, a spoken-word vinyl exploring British immigration legacies.
Recent publications span peer-reviewed journals such as Nka Journal of Contemporary African Art and edited volumes including The Routledge Companion to African American Art History. Themes revolve around decolonial art practices and diasporic visual narratives.
