Rik Henson is a Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry and based at the MRC Cognition & Brain Sciences Unit (CBU). He serves as Director of the Cambridge Centre for Ageing and Neuroscience (Cam-CAN), a multidisciplinary initiative studying brain-behavior relationships across the lifespan. His research focuses on memory, aging, and dementia, utilizing multimodal neuroimaging techniques like structural/functional MRI and EEG/MEG.
- Education: Natural Sciences (Cambridge), MSc in Artificial Intelligence (Edinburgh), PhD in Cognitive Psychology (Cambridge)
- Leadership Roles: Deputy/Acting Director of MRC CBU, President of British Neuroscience Association
His work spans cognitive neuroscience methodologies, including computational modeling of neural responses, exploration of prediction error in memory encoding, and longitudinal studies linking cardiovascular health to cognitive aging. Current projects involve PhD students investigating event boundaries, theta synchrony, and dementia detection in community settings.
Scientific honors include:
- Fellow of the British Academy (FBA)
- President of the British Neuroscience Association (20XX)
- MRC Programme Leader
He leads a research team at MRC CBU, supervises PhD students, and collaborates with international institutions. The Cam-CAN center under his directorship integrates aging research across disciplines.
