Richard Haynes

Professor Richard K. Haynes is a Senior Principal Research Fellow at the Rural Health Research Institute, Charles Sturt University. His work bridges medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, and global health, focusing on drug development for malaria, tuberculosis, and cancer. He also holds adjunct positions at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and North-West University.

• Research Interests: Mechanism of action of artemisinin derivatives, rational drug combinations, non-neurotoxic antimalarials, and therapies for parasitic/bacterial diseases.

His recent publications highlight advancements in self-emulsifying drug delivery systems, redox-active antimalarials, and drug repurposing for viral infections. Notably, artemisone—a non-neurotoxic artemisinin derivative—has shown clinical promise in malaria and cytomegalovirus treatments.
