Richard Gisser is an Austrian demographer affiliated with the Vienna Institute of Demography (VID) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He previously served as director of the Population Statistics Department at Statistik Austria (1985–2001), deputy director of VID (until 2017), and head of the Research Group on Demography of Austria. He holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Vienna (1975) and passed the Staatsexamen in official statistics in 1976.
