Professor Richard (YongQing) Fu is a globally recognized academic in the Faculty of Engineering and Environment at University of Northumbria at Newcastle, UK. With a PhD from Nanyang Technological University and postdoctoral experience at MIT and Cambridge, he has held academic positions at Heriot-Watt University and University of West of Scotland before joining Northumbria in 2015.
His research focuses on smart thin films and nanomaterials for applications in MEMS, acoustofluidics, energy harvesting, and biomedical microdevices. Key projects include shape memory alloys, piezoelectric sensors, and anti-icing coatings. Funded by EPSRC, Royal Society, and EU Horizon programs, his work has resulted in over 500 SCI papers and two books.
Recent publications emphasize acoustic wave technologies for drug delivery, ultra-sensitive gas detection, and energy-efficient biomedical devices. His leadership in the Acoustofluidics and Micro-acoustics Special Interest Groups demonstrates his interdisciplinary impact. Scientific recognition includes the Outstanding KTP Project Award (2020) for industry collaboration.
