Richard E. Thurlow is an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at Widener University. He holds affiliations with programs including Secondary Education, Elementary Education, Special Education (PK-12), and Education PhD. His research focuses on comprehension, reading development, and applications of technology in education. He transitioned from a music career to academia, earning a PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota (1991) and a BS in Music Education (1974).
Research interests include brain development’s impact on literacy, psycholinguistic theories of reading, and critical analysis of neuroscientific claims in education. He emphasizes bridging doctoral and undergraduate teaching, with a focus on fostering student sophistication in educational research literature.
Awards include the R. Carter Kelso Service Award and grants supporting technology-literacy initiatives. His work spans publications on educational technology, community partnerships, and assessment strategies in teacher education.
