Richard E. Coggeshall, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). He joined UTMB in 1971 after positions at Harvard Medical School. His research career focused on sensory mechanisms of the spinal cord and peripheral nervous system, particularly ventral root sensory fibers and pain pathways. He received the Jacob Javitz Award (1987) for his contributions and transitioned to full-time teaching in 2010.
