معرفی
Richard Clark is a Professor and Section Head of Genetics and Evolution at the University of Utah's School of Biological Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University and is affiliated with both the Ecology, Evolution & Organismal Biology (EEOB) and Molecular, Cellular & Evolutionary Biology (MCEB) graduate programs.
Education:
- Ph.D. - Stanford University
Research Focus:
Dr. Clark's laboratory investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying genetic variation in plants and arthropods. His primary research centers on plant-herbivore interactions, specifically examining how spider mites (Tetranychus urticae) interact with host plants at the genetic and biochemical levels. The lab employs molecular biology techniques, quantitative genetics, and high-throughput genomic methods including genome sequencing and transcriptional profiling.
Additional research interests include:
- Genetic architecture of spider mite diapause
- Carotenoid biosynthesis and metabolism in arthropods
- Evolutionary responses to agricultural selection pressures
- Coevolutionary dynamics between plants and herbivores
Research Trends:
His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on spider mite genomics and plant-herbivore interactions. The work spans from trait mapping and QTL analysis to evolutionary genomics and resistance mechanisms. Notable contributions include understanding carotenoid-based pigmentation evolution, mechanisms of acaricide resistance, and the genetic basis of adaptation in agricultural pest populations.
Teaching:
Dr. Clark teaches Biol 5140: Genome Biology, reflecting his expertise in genomics and molecular biology.
