Richard Carter-White is a Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University's School of Communication, Society and Culture, affiliated with the Housing and Urban Research Centre. Previously, he held lectureship positions at the University of Tokyo. His research focuses on three key themes: geographies of disaster, trauma, and exception; geographies of representation, testimony, and performance; and spatial philosophies of community, biopolitics, and affect. These themes are underpinned by poststructuralist and deconstructionist frameworks, with current projects examining Nazi Germany's spatialities and post-disaster landscapes in Tohoku, Japan.
