Dr. Richard Budd is a Lecturer in Higher Education at Lancaster University's School of Social Sciences. He is affiliated with the Centre for Higher Education Research and Evaluation and the Centre for Social Justice and Wellbeing in Education. His research examines how different groups experience universities, with focus on organizational culture, social justice, and decolonisation efforts. He holds a BA in Psychology and Management (Leeds Trinity), MSc in Educational Research Methodology (Oxford), PhD in Sociology of Higher Education (Bristol), and PGCert in Learning and Teaching (Liverpool Hope).
Research Focus: Budd explores the sociomaterial nature of universities, decolonisation practices, student/staff experiences, and education policy through international comparative frameworks. His current projects include studies on racial/ethnic awarding gaps and the '3-D University' initiative examining organizational culture's impact on student experiences.
Academic Supervision: Currently supervises 33 postgraduate research students including Helen Meek and Tamsyn Smith. His research often examines doctoral provision challenges in social sciences.
Professional Engagement: Maintains the blog 'Stuff About Unis' and actively contributes to higher education discourse via Twitter (@ddubdrahcir). Previously coordinated staff development partnerships across multiple universities.
