Richard Boyatzis is a Distinguished University Professor and H. Clark Ford Professor at Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead School of Management. He holds additional appointments in Organizational Behavior, Psychology, and Cognitive Science. His research focuses on intentional change theory, complexity theory, and the neuroscience of coaching, emphasizing sustainable organizational and personal transformation. He has authored over 200 articles and nine influential books, including Primal Leadership and Resonant Leadership.
Boyatzis earned his PhD and MA in Social Psychology from Harvard University and a BS in Aeronautics & Astronautics from MIT. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the 2023 Christopher J Peterson Gold Medal Award and the 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award. His work spans leadership development, emotional intelligence, and global organizational change, with engagements across Fortune 500 companies and international institutions.
Boyatzis teaches courses on leading change, emotional intelligence, and complexity theory. His MOOC, Inspiring Leadership Through Emotional Intelligence, has reached over 1.35 million learners globally. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and a leading voice in positive psychology and coaching research.
