Dr. Richard Bownas is a Professor at the University of Northern Colorado's College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Political Science and International Affairs. His academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Government from Cornell University (2012), an M.A. in Development Management from the London School of Economics, and a B.A. in English Literature from Cambridge University.
His research centers on South Asian political dynamics, particularly in Nepal and India, examining farmers' movements, NGO interventions, genetically modified crop controversies, post-disaster reconstruction, caste politics, grassroots democracy, and religious diffusion (Christianity and Hindu nationalism). Dr. Bownas continues field work with Nepalese organizations like the Dignity Initiative focused on lower-caste empowerment.
