Richard Berry serves as Professor of Music in the School of Music, College of Fine Arts, at Stephen F. Austin State University. He holds degrees from Kilgore College, Stephen F. Austin State University, and the University of Missouri Kansas City, and has previously taught at the University of Kansas, University of Denver, and University of Texas at San Antonio. His current responsibilities include teaching voice and voice pedagogy, and directing the university's opera theatre.

Dr. Berry's professional expertise spans Voice Performance, Opera direction, and Voice Pedagogy, with significant contributions to Choral Music and Music Education. As an active tenor, he performs major oratorio works including Verdi's "Requiem" and Handel's "Messiah" with orchestras nationwide. His scholarly approach informs over 20 opera productions such as "Carmen", "The Barber of Seville", and "Rigoletto", emphasizing vocal technique and dramatic interpretation.
Formerly holding administrative leadership as Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Provost, Dr. Berry now focuses on mentoring students through hands-on opera productions. His direction of works like "Romeo and Juliet" and "Die Fledermaus" provides comprehensive training in staging, vocal artistry, and ensemble collaboration within SFA's opera theatre program.
