Richard Beck is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Cincinnati. His academic career spans over three decades, with prior roles including Research Faculty (1999-2009) and positions at Miami University (1995-1999). He holds a Ph.D. in Earth Science from the University of Southern California (1995), an M.S. in Information Science from the University of Illinois (2004), and two M.S. and a B.S. in Earth Sciences from Iowa State University.
His research focuses on geographical information networks, remote sensing applications for climate change, Arctic studies, and water resources. Notable projects include the Barrow Arctic Research Facility cyberinfrastructure and the HABSat satellite initiatives for monitoring harmful algal blooms. Beck has led over 30 grants totaling millions in funding, emphasizing satellite data integration and environmental monitoring systems.
His awards include the NASA TGIR Award (2004), AMOCO Best Paper Award (1995), and multiple Fulbright Fellowships. He teaches courses in physical geography, remote sensing, GIS, and grant preparation.
