Riccardo MARIN is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Italy. He leads the Intelligent Optical Nanomaterials (IONs) group and holds affiliations with the Research Institute for Complexity. His research focuses on luminescent nanomaterials for biomedical applications, including multiparametric sensing, opto-magnetic devices, and nanothermometry.
Education:
- PhD in Chemistry (2017), Ca' Foscari University of Venice & INRS, Canada
- Master's in Materials Science (2011), Ca' Foscari University of Venice
- Bachelor's in Materials Science (2009), Ca' Foscari University of Venice
Research Interests: Development of luminescent nanomaterials for biomedical imaging and sensing, including semiconductor nanocrystals, lanthanide-doped nanoparticles, and opto-magnetic hybrids. His work emphasizes temperature sensing, photothermal therapy, and machine learning-enhanced data analysis for precision diagnostics.
Awards:
- Ramon y Cajal Fellowship (2022)
- Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship (2018)
- Best Oral Presentation Awards (2023, 2021, 2016)
Grants: Co-PI of the ERC-funded project "MAtCHLESS" (2024–present) targeting advanced luminescence sensing via machine learning and spectral sorting.
Teaching: Teaches Physics for Chemists, Experimental Techniques, and supervises 5 PhD students and multiple graduate researchers.
