Riccarda Saggese is a Professor of Italian at the University of Delaware, affiliated with the College of Arts & Sciences and the Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures. She holds a Ph.D. in Italian Literature from Johns Hopkins University, a Diploma in Archival Science from the State Archives of Milan, Italy, and a Laurea in Philosophy from the University of Naples, Italy. Her research focuses on Italian language pedagogy, 19th/20th-century literature, medieval history, and women writers. She has authored textbooks like Easy Italian Reader and Italy Past and Present, and her book Momenti Medioevali (2010) reflects her expertise in medieval studies. Dr. Saggese also coordinates Italian cultural workshops for the Delaware Department of Education and teaches courses ranging from elementary Italian to specialized topics like Italian women writers and contemporary literature.
Her academic work bridges historical and modern literary analysis, with a strong emphasis on pedagogical innovation. She currently teaches 'Italy Today,' 'Italian Reading and Composition,' and 'Special Topics: Italian Women Writers,' among others.
