معرفی
Ricardo Zaurin is a Lecturer in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering at the University of Central Florida (UCF), within the College of Engineering and Computer Science. He has been actively contributing to engineering education since joining UCF, with a strong emphasis on pedagogical innovation and student success in large gateway courses.
His research interests span a broad spectrum of educational methodologies and civil engineering technologies. Key areas include:
- Active Learning and Experiential Learning
- Project-Based and Adaptive Learning
- Blended Instruction and E-Portfolios
- Structural Health Monitoring and Computer Vision
- Damage Detection and Smart Structures
- Numerical Simulations and Non-Destructive Evaluation
His recent publications, primarily presented at ASEE conferences from 2018 to 2023, reflect a consistent focus on enhancing engineering education through evidence-based practices. These works investigate the impact of adaptive learning modules, blended instruction, and project-based homework on student engagement and performance in foundational courses such as Statics and Dynamics. The research demonstrates a commitment to improving retention and success in engineering education through innovative, scalable teaching strategies.
Dr. Zaurin has been recognized with several prestigious awards for his contributions to undergraduate teaching:
- College Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award (Founders’ Day 2023)
- Affordable Instructional Material High Impact Individual Award Recipient (2022)
- Broche de Oro Award for impact in Undergraduate Education, Teaching, and Learning (LAFASA, UCF, 2019)
- College Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award (Founders’ Day 2019)
- College Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award (Founders’ Day 2015)
He has collaborated with researchers such as S. Pal, S. Dey Tirtha, and N. Eluru on studies related to prerequisite knowledge adequacy, adaptive learning, and mixed-mode instruction. While no formal advising relationships are listed, his work on mentorship systems and experiential learning activities indicates deep involvement in student development. Though no specific lab or research team is named, his projects suggest leadership in instructional innovation initiatives at UCF.
