Ricardo Niklas Werner

Ricardo Niklas Werner serves as Deputy Head of the Division of Evidence-Based Medicine (dEBM) and Senior Consultant (Oberarzt) in Dermatology, Venereology and Proctology at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin's Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Allergology on the Campus Charité Mitte. As a Privatdozent (lecturer), he holds academic teaching responsibilities in dermatology and venereology.

His educational background includes medical studies at Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Universität (RWTH) Aachen, followed by specialization training in dermatology and venereology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Ärztezentrum Nollendorfplatz in Berlin, with additional certification in proctology.

Werner's research concentrates on evidence-based methodology for systematic reviews and guideline development, with clinical expertise in general dermatology and sexually transmitted infections. His specialized focus includes HPV-associated anogenital lesions, STI epidemiology, and HIV prevention strategies, applying Cochrane and GRADE Working Group methodologies. He actively contributes to national and international guideline development through multiple professional societies.

His leadership roles include Board membership and Guidelines Commissioner for the German STI Society (DSTIG), Head of the Guidelines Subcommittee on STIs for the German Dermatological Society (DDG), and European Dermatology Forum representation on the European STI Guidelines Project. He maintains active memberships in the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV), German Dermatological Society (DDG), German STI Society (DSTIG), and German Network for Evidence Based Medicine (DNEbM).

As a Certified Guidelines Advisor with the German National Guidelines Committee (AWMF), Werner bridges clinical practice with methodological research in evidence-based medicine. His work through the Division of Evidence-Based Medicine focuses on developing German, European, and international guidelines while conducting methodological and health services research projects.
