Rhiannon Schembri is a Research Fellow at Macquarie University's School of Natural Sciences, holding a Doctor of Philosophy from the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Previously, she earned a Master of Research in Evolutionary Biology (Macquarie University, 2024) and dual bachelor's degrees from Australian National University: a Bachelor of Science (Hons I) in Evolutionary Biology (2021) and a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics (2020).
Her research spans evolutionary biology, conservation genetics, and linguistic anthropology. Key areas include:
- Phylogeographic analysis of skink species in fragmented habitats
- Molecular and morphological drivers of speciation in reptiles
- Genomic approaches to understanding hybridization dynamics
- Development of global linguistic databases (Kinbank, Grambank)
Recent work highlights innovative methods to address population genomic biases and identify Pb toxicity biomarkers in birds. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges biodiversity conservation with computational linguistics, evidenced by collaborations in Australia and international networks.
Publications emphasize methodological rigor and applied conservation outcomes, with 9 peer-reviewed articles (2021–2025) and an h-index of 4. Current projects investigate post-wildfire biodiversity recovery and linguistic structural diversity patterns.
