As Course Director for the Zoology with Animal Management program, she focuses on enhancing student employability through practical training at the University Farm and collaborations with institutions like Welsh Mountain Zoo and Kruger National Park. Her research examines African elephant movement dynamics in relation to resource availability, with international partnerships including the Space for Elephants Foundation and the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
Research Interests: Burton investigates how African elephant family groups adapt to environmental changes, analyzing movement patterns, habitat selection, and home ranges across spatiotemporal scales. Her work addresses ecological responses to resource scarcity in dynamic savanna ecosystems.
Publications: Her 2022 paper in Scientific Reports explores seasonal range fidelity of megaherbivores. She has presented findings at major conferences, including the International Mammalogical Congress (2017) and BioMove Symposium (2018).
Labs/Teams: Collaborations involve Henfaes Research Centre (University Farm) and international partners such as the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa.
