Professor Reza Monem is a Professor of Accounting at Griffith University, holding roles such as Deputy Head of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics and Editor-in-Chief of the Accounting Research Journal. He has extensive academic experience across institutions in Bangladesh, Singapore, and Australia. His research focuses on corporate governance, executive pay, international accounting, and IFRS adoption, with publications in top-tier journals like Contemporary Accounting Research and Journal of Business Finance & Accounting. He has supervised nine PhD students to completion and received the Griffith Business School Research Excellence Award (2016). His editorial roles include positions at Journal of Applied Accounting Research and Managerial Auditing Journal. He actively engages in media commentary on financial reporting, corporate governance, and Indigenous affairs. His funded research includes studies on board gender diversity, IFRS adoption impacts, and transparency in public sectors.
Education: BCom (Honours) from University of Dhaka (1982), MCom (1984), M.Acc.Sc. (University of Illinois, 1988), PhD (University of Queensland, Australia). Professional memberships include CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants ANZ, and Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Research grants include projects on Indonesia's public sector transparency (Tetra Tech/DFAT, 2023), gender diversity in boards and pay-performance links (2016–2019), and challenges for small accounting practices (2012–2015). Academic leadership includes roles as Accounting Discipline Head and Director of the Corporate Governance and Accountability Research Cluster.
