Reva Yunus

Dr. Reva Yunus is a Lecturer in Education and Social Justice at the Department of Education, University of York, where she joined in 2021. She serves as Deputy Pathway Director for PGT Education and Theme Lead for Reducing the Awarding Gap. Her academic journey includes a PhD in Sociology from the University of Warwick (2018), an ICSSR Postdoctoral Fellowship at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai (2020), and prior teaching at Azim Premji University in India.

Her research focuses on the intersection of socioeconomic inequalities, education, and youth experiences, particularly examining how poverty, caste, and gender shape educational opportunities in urban India and England. She employs qualitative and ethnographic methodologies to investigate how marginalized young people navigate educational systems amid economic precarity.

Her 2024 monograph 'Labour Class' Children's Schooling in Urban India: A Sociological Account (Routledge) represents a significant contribution to understanding the complex relationship between educational experience and structural inequalities. Her recent publications span critical analyses of right-wing populism in education, gendered childhoods, Indian women's movements, and the impact of pandemics on girls' education in low and middle-income countries.
