Dr. Reto Speck is a Senior Research Fellow at King's College London's Department of Digital Humanities within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. He also serves as Co-Director of the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI) and Scientific Coordinator of its Implementation Phase Project. His academic background includes a PhD from Queen Mary University of London (2010) and BA/MA degrees from the University of Sussex (2002/2003). He previously worked at the Arts and Humanities Data Service and taught at Queen Mary before joining King’s in 2011.
His research focuses on digital research infrastructures, archival theory, and Enlightenment intellectual history. Central to his work is EHRI, a EU-funded initiative integrating Holocaust-related archival resources across Europe. His contributions include developing the EHRI portal, advancing record-linking methodologies, and exploring the impact of digital technologies on archival practices.
Publications highlight his expertise in Holocaust documentation, digital humanities, and Enlightenment political thought. He has contributed to peer-reviewed journals like Holocaust Studies and ACM Journal on Computing and Cultural Heritage, and edited special issues on Holocaust archives in the digital age. His work bridges historical scholarship with modern digital infrastructure challenges.
Dr. Speck has led major research projects including EHRI-3 (2020-2025) and collaborated with institutions like the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust, and Genocide Studies in Amsterdam. His activities include editorial roles for QUEST and peer-review for American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (ASECS).
