Reto Rössler

Dr. Reto Rössler serves as Assistant Professor for Modern German Literature at the European University of Flensburg since May 2021, holding a positive interim evaluation in December 2024. His academic affiliations include the Center for Research on Environment, Sustainability and Transformation (CREST), the Georg-Brandes-Gesellschaft for Literature Mediation, and the Interdisciplinary Centre for European Studies (ICES).

His research spans Interkultural German Studies, focusing on power dynamics in literary fiction, intersectionality in contemporary German-language literature ('Herkünfte erzählen' network), and European identity formations in interwar literature. He examines literary representations of similarity, utopias/dystopias, and knowledge-poetics intersections with science, particularly through Robert Musil's work. His methodology combines cultural history, metaphorology, and genre analysis to investigate literary anthropology, ecological writing, and gender/queer studies.

Rössler's scholarly output reveals strong thematic continuity in analyzing European literary modernity, with recent publications concentrating on cosmological metaphors in Enlightenment literature, intercultural nature writing, and autosoziobiographical class narratives. His work demonstrates increasing engagement with ecological thought and intersectional inequality frameworks.

Rössler directs the 'FormWissen/WissensFormen' research cluster examining co-evolution of literary and epistemic writing practices, while his current monograph project analyzes 'Figurationen der Verflechtung und des Übergangs' in interwar European literature.
