Renzhe Yu is an Assistant Professor at Teachers College, Columbia University, specializing in Learning Analytics and Educational Data Mining. He holds additional affiliations as a Faculty Member at the Data Science Institute and a Research Affiliate at the Community College Research Center. His work bridges the fields of artificial intelligence, education, and equity considerations in educational technology.
Dr. Yu earned his Ph.D. in Educational Data Science from the University of California, Irvine, followed by an M.A. in Economics of Education and dual undergraduate degrees in Artificial Intelligence and Economics from Peking University. This interdisciplinary background informs his unique approach to educational technology research.
His research focuses on the intersection of Responsible AI and Educational Equity, with particular attention to how data-driven technologies impact community colleges and underserved student populations. Dr. Yu's work examines digital innovation in education technology while critically analyzing how these tools may perpetuate or mitigate existing educational inequities. He actively investigates the role of social media in educational contexts and the broader implications of AI systems in higher education settings.
Dr. Yu is currently accepting PhD applications for Fall 2025 entry to both the Cognitive Science in Education and Measurement and Evaluation programs at Columbia University.
