Renee Read, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at Emory University School of Medicine. She holds affiliations with multiple departments including Neurosurgery, Pediatrics, and Pathology. Her research focuses on glioblastoma (GBM) biology, leveraging multi-disciplinary approaches combining Drosophila models, mouse models, and human clinical data.
Education: B.A. in Biology from Carleton College, PhD in Developmental Biology from Washington University School of Medicine. Postdoctoral training at Salk Institute and UCSD.
Research interests include identifying therapeutic targets for high-grade gliomas, studying RTK signaling pathways (EGFR/MET), and translational studies on YAP/TAZ inhibitors. Her lab collaborates widely with clinical teams to advance pre-clinical drug testing (e.g., FDA-approved MEN2 therapies from Drosophila models).
Notable achievements include the 2020 Ivy Foundation Emerging Leader Award and recent grants from NINDS and Morningside Center. Current projects involve pediatric glioma fusion variants and repurposing verteporfin for GBM treatment.
Lab management includes postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduates. Collaborations span Emory's Winship Cancer Institute, Neurosurgery, and Pathology departments.
