Cuban-born René Izquierdo is a Professor in the Department of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), where he serves as Classical Guitar Area Head, Guitar Director, and Guitar Ensemble Chamber Music Coach. He holds three master's degrees in Education from Lehman College (NY), Guitar from Yale University School of Music, and Guitar from the Superior Institute of Art in Havana, Cuba.

René is celebrated as a classical guitar virtuoso with over seventy annual engagements as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral collaborator. His performances span global venues including Carnegie Hall, Manaus Opera House, and National Recital Hall in Taiwan, emphasizing technical mastery and storytelling through music.
As an educator, he focuses on holistic development, integrating analytical and emotional intelligence in training musicians. His recording projects highlight new arrangements, 20th-century rediscoveries, and premieres of modern compositions to expand guitar repertoire.
