Renaud Detry is an Associate Professor at KU Leuven in Belgium, holding dual appointments in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (groups PSI and RAM). He is affiliated with Leuven.AI as a steering committee member and part of the ELLIS Society. He also serves as a visiting researcher at ULiege and KTH. Previously, he led the Perception Systems group at NASA JPL and was an Assistant Professor at UCLouvain.
His research focuses on robot learning and computer vision, applied to manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare, space robotics, and planetary exploration. Notable contributions include work on Mars Sample Return missions, robotic sand grading, and assistive robotics. He is an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Robotics and regularly reviews for IROS and ICRA.
Recent work highlights include uncertainty-aware robot learning, multi-task diffusion policies for robotic tasks, and sustainable in-space manufacturing. His presentations at conferences like Human-Centered AI and ERF 2024 showcase advancements in assistive robotics and shared control systems.
