Renate Pasch was a researcher at the Institut für Deutsche Sprache (IDS) in Mannheim from 1992 to 2004, working as a research assistant in the Grammar Department. Her primary role involved collaborating on the project Handbook of German Connectors and managing its development. Prior to this, she held academic positions at institutions such as the Humboldt University of Berlin and the Central Institute for Linguistics of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR, where she focused on lexical semantics, valence, information structure, and syntactic analysis.

- 1960-1964: Studied Romance Studies (French, Spanish, Portuguese) at Humboldt University, Berlin.
- 1963-1965: Studied General Linguistics at Humboldt University, Berlin.
- 1971: Doctorate in General Linguistics (Humboldt University) titled Noematic Analysis of a Minimal French Vocabulary.
Research Interests: Her work centered on grammarography, syntax, semantics, and the analysis of German linguistic structures, including connectives and sentence modes. She led the Sentence Mode research group (1985–1991) at the ZISW (Central Institute for Linguistics).
Legacy: Contributed to foundational projects in German linguistics, including studies on lexical semantics and valence. Her expertise spanned theoretical and applied linguistic research, with a focus on German grammar and discourse analysis.
